In the year 2000, the dawn of a new millennia, TripAdvisor, the world’s largest and leading travel community website was founded above a small pizza shop in Needham, Massachusetts, in the USA. Before it became the giant that it is today, before its more than 350 million unique monthly users on its branded websites, its more than 45 million user generated images and its 290 million reviews and opinions, it was a humble website. In fact its first review was of an eatery named Captain’s House Inn in Chatham, Massachusetts, which is less than a two hour drive from its start-up base in Needham.
Did you know that London is the most reviewed city on the platform with more than 1.8 million reviews and counting? The tiny island nation of Tuvalu in the South Pacific is the least reviewed country on the platform and the average TripAdvisor rating is actually very positive at four out of five. With 23 other brands in its travel and hospitality website portfolio and operations in 47 countries worldwide, it celebrates 16 years in business in 2016.
