Australia to contribute around 26% of ammonia capacity additions in APAC through 2026
Australia plays a significant role by adding a capacity of 3.34 mtpa by 2026 among Asia-Pacific (APAC) countries. It is projected to add around 26% of the total ammonia capacity additions in the APAC by 2026, finds GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
GlobalData’s report, ‘Global Ammonia Industry Outlook to 2026 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants’, reveals that Australia is likely to witness start of operation of five planned and announced projects by 2026, adding a capacity of 3.34 mtpa. Of these, 2.19 mtpa would be from the announced projects while the rest of the additions are from planned projects.
Vinuthna Bidar, Oil and Gas Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “In Australia, majority of the capacity additions are from Derby Fertilizer and Petrochemical Derby Ammonia plant and Perdaman Chemicals and Fertilisers Karratha Ammonia Plant, with the capacity of 1.16 mtpa each. They are expected to commence production of ammonia in 2024 and 2025 respectively.”
Haldor Topsoe AS is the technology provider for both Derby Fertilizer and Petrochemical Derby Ammonia plant and Perdaman Chemicals and Fertilisers Karratha Ammonia Plant.
Strike Energy Geraldton Ammonia Plant is the second highest contributor in terms of capacity additions with a capacity of 0.80 mtpa each by 2026. It is operated by Strike Energy Ltd.
