Global power industry tenders: Thermal technology up 22% in August 2020
Thermal technology tenders activity in August 2020 saw 182 tenders announced, marking a rise of 22% over the last 12-month average of 149, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.
Oil was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of tenders for the month, accounting for 145 tenders and a 78.4% share, followed by Coal with 25 tenders and a 13.5% share. Gas stood in third place with 15 tenders and an 8.1% share.
Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the top position in terms of number of tenders during August 2020 with a 52.1% share.
The proportion of tenders by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 113 tenders and a 62.1% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 62 tenders and a 34.1% share
- Project Implementation: five tenders and a 2.7% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: two tenders and a 1.1% share.
North America leads thermal tenders activity in August 2020
Comparing tenders activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 109 tenders and a share of 59.9% during August 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with 32 tenders and a 17.6% share and Europe with 21 tenders and an 11.5% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 19 tenders and a 10.4% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with one tender and a 0.5% share.

The top issuers of tenders in Thermal technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
