Launching the 2ndAnnual Green Concrete GCC Conference

Following the success of its first edition, Advanced Conferences & Meetings is proud to announce the launch of the 2nd Annual Green Concrete GCC conference, held on 28-29 September in Dubai, UAE.

Officially supported byDubai Municipality and ASTM, the 2nd annualGreen Concrete GCCwill address the use of sustainable concrete across GCC to reduce carbon emissions and increase project lifecycles.

The event will give an update on Dubai Municipality’s initiatives in using sustainable concrete for all new projects, made mandatory as of April 1st, 2015. The discussion will expand to include the adoption of sustainable concrete across the UAE as well as the wider Gulf region, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Benefits of switching to green concrete

Durable concrete increases the service life of structures with reduced maintenance. It’s cost effective and promotesenvironment’s sustainability, in addition to the fact that structures built using green concrete have a better chance of surviving a fire.

Reducing the amount of OPC in concrete mixtures creates a significant opportunity for reducing global CO2 emissions. In fact, Green Concrete uses less energy in its production & produces less CO2 than normal traditional concrete.

With this being said, in Qatar, upgrades have been implemented to Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS 2014) and the concrete currently produced in the country has a lower carbon footprint. In addition, Saudi Arabia is gravitating towards concrete of higher durability, which has led to a growing demand for admixtures based on polycarboxylic ethers (PCEs).
