Google lets users transfer AI memories and chat history to Gemini
Google has introduced new, user-friendly tools that make it easy for people to switch to Gemini by transferring their AI memories, personal context, and chat history from other applications. The feature is now rolling out across the Arab world for all consumer accounts.
The new memory import capability allows Gemini to quickly understand a user’s key preferences, relationships, and personal context. Instead of starting from scratch, users can bring over the same information they’ve already shared with other AI apps, helping Gemini deliver more personalized and relevant responses from the start.
To import memory, users can go to Settings and select the import option. Gemini will provide a suggested prompt that can be copied and pasted into the other AI app. Once that app generates a summary of the user’s preferences, the response can be copied back into Gemini, where it will be analyzed and securely stored for future interactions.
As part of its “Personal Intelligence” approach, Gemini can also incorporate insights from services like Gmail, Google Photos, Search history, and previous Gemini chats—provided users grant permission. In addition to memory import, users now have the option to upload their full chat history from other AI platforms.
By uploading a ZIP file containing past conversations, users can continue their discussions seamlessly within Gemini, search through previous threads, and build on them without interruption.
The feature is currently available on the web across the Arab region, with mobile support expected to roll out in the coming days.
