Girl Power
Girls are the leaders, scientists, politicians, journalists, astronauts, educators and women of the future. What is becoming more apparent now is that how we educate the girls of today can have an instrumental effect on the survival of humanity in the future. And many more of today’s youngsters are finding their voices as activists to campaign to bring about political or societal change.
Girls have long stood at the forefront of progress. Inspired by education activists, Malala Yousafzai (Pakistan) and Muzoon Almellehan (Syria), and Swedish climate champion, Greta Thunberg, an entire generation of teenage girls are being shown how to speak out for equality. In late 2020, UNICEF[1] released a feature called “TEEN. GIRL. ACTIVIST”, showcasing five teenage girls making a difference in their communities.
Empowerment’s positive effects on climate
Hydrogen powered superyachts and donations from billionaires often grab headlines in the fight against climate change whilst more simple and potentially more effective ways to tackle the climate emergency get less attention. One powerful catalyst for rapid change is the education of girls.
