A win-win for women workers
How a cooperative provided more income and reduced the carbon footprint for salt workers in India.
Bhuriben has been a salt-pan worker in Little Rann of Kutch (LRK), Gujarat, India for more than 25 years. She recently told me told me what life was like before her cooperative. “At the end of a season, a salt-farmer would be hardly left with 5,000 rupees ($ 73) to support her family for the entire year.”
